We’re Still One of the Best-Kept Secrets in the Kingdom—But We Shouldn’t Be
Melinda Martin • June 26, 2025
Let us tell you what we can do for you and your loved ones.
The Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging (NEKCOA) has been here for decades—quietly, steadily, doing the work to help older Vermonters stay safe, independent, and connected. But despite our deep roots and wide reach, there are still far too many people in our region who don’t know what we do.
We hear it all the time:
"I wish I had known about you sooner."
That needs to change.
We are a vitally needed community support. Whether you're aging yourself or caring for someone who is, NEKCOA is here to walk alongside you—not just in a crisis, but for every step of the journey.
So, What Do We Actually Do?
NEKCOA serves older adults, caregivers, and people with disabilities across Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans counties. Our services are free or low-cost, and they’re designed to help people live where they want to be—at home, in their communities, and with dignity.
Here are just some of the ways we help:
🍽️ Home-delivered meals and community dining
🚗 Transportation coordination to medical appointments, errands, or visits
🧹 In-home support for daily living tasks like cleaning or bathing
📞 Information and referral helpline to connect you with the right services
💊 Medicare and benefits counseling
💞 Caregiver support, respite options, and dementia assistance
🧘♀️ Wellness classes like Tai Chi and falls prevention
🫶 Volunteer opportunities that turn neighbors into lifelines
We’re already serving thousands—but we know there are so many more people in the Northeast Kingdom who need us and haven’t reached out yet.
Let’s Change That
This year, we’re working harder than ever to make sure no one is left wondering where to turn. You’ll see us showing up more—in community spaces, online, at meal sites, and through your local newsletters.
We want every Vermonter to know:
👉 You don’t have to figure this out alone.
👉 There’s help. There’s dignity. There’s a path forward.
👉 And NEKCOA is here for you.
