Transportation Assistance Across the NEK

Helping You Stay Connected to What Matters Most

At the Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging, we know transportation is vital to staying independent and engaged. That’s why we work with Rural Community Transportation (RCT), local taxi services, and volunteers when available to help older adults and people with disabilities get where they need to go—safely, reliably, and affordably.

Transportation Services Available

RCT Rides (Microtransit)

RCT Public Buses

  • Scheduled routes
  • No cost
  • Lift-equipped vehicles

Medical Appointment Transportation (for Medicaid recipients)

  • For people who need assistance getting to regular appointments
  • Priority given to those without other means of transportation

Older Adults & Persons with Disabilities (O&D) Transportation Program

In partnership with RCT, the NEK Council on Aging helps coordinate the O&D Program, offering fare-free transportation to older Vermonters and those with disabilities.

Please note: This program is budget-dependent, which means rides must be prioritized to ensure that those with the most urgent needs receive support first. When resources are limited, need takes priority over availability.

Eligibility

  • Must be 60 years of age or older, or
  • Be a person of any age with a disability (as defined by the ADA), and
  • Have no access to other transportation

Approved Trip Purposes

  • Medical appointments (especially critical care like dialysis or cancer treatments)
  • Grocery and pharmacy trips

How to Schedule a Ride

  • Advance notice is required
  • Priority is given to medical and critical care appointments
  • Call RCT: (802) 748-8170

How the Program Works

Why Are Some Trips Denied?
This program is supported by
limited federal and state funds. When demand is high, trips are prioritized based on urgency and need—typically medical and essential services come first.

RCT Service Guide

Thank you so much for my ride with the RCT bus.  I went to Clarks Landing and had a wonderful buffet lunch and I met friends and new people.  It was so kind of you to let me do this ride.

Your friend, Peggy
