Exercise Program Helps Seniors and Community to Grow Stronger

Mel Reis • January 10, 2022

Seniors fitness programs are nothing new, but in the town of Lyndonville, a group of elders are restarting the Growing Stronger exercise program on February 7th, 2022. The class will meet Mondays and Thursdays 9 - 10 am at the Municipal Gymnasium. The class helps to improve strength and balance with the use of exercise and light weights.

Classes began over 17 years ago, some of the members of the original group are still involved in the program. The classes are sponsored by the NEK Council on Aging, and are led by several dedicated volunteer leaders. Participants donate one dollar for each session they attend and the group decides how to distribute the donations that have been collected. In past years, the group has donated to local organizations and to the Town of Lyndon for the use of the Gymnasium.

Sha’an Mouliert, one of the Council’s volunteer wellness leaders remarks, “Our group is very civic minded. We are proud to be able to give back to the community while having fun and participating in an activity that benefits us, too. We are growing stronger together, improving our health and wellbeing, and helping the community as well.”
