Dead River Company Supports Fuel Fund

The NEK Council on Aging was grateful to accept a matching donation from Dead River Fuel Company of $1,500 to support their Fuel Fund. Each year, the NEKCOA provides over $10,000 in support to individuals for heating needs.”

“Last winter was very tough on our elder Vermonters. Our fuel fund was running low very early due to the frigid temperatures,” said Meg Burmeister, Executive Director of the NEKCOA. “This year, we wanted to get a jump on fundraising and we are grateful that Dead River offered to match our goal to raise $1,500.”

Fundraising efforts to obtain the match extended across emails, social media posts, and a dedicated “Giving Tuesday” online donation campaign that resulted in over $500 in donations.

“Most Vermonters want to be able to stay in their homes as they age, and we see the best results when we take the time to listen to people and respect their needs and desires. We observe that during the coldest months of the year, some of our elders are faced with the decision to use critical resources to either purchase fuel or food and we want to be prepared to assist them. Thank you Dead River for your support,” said Burmeister.

“Since our founding one-hundred and eleven years ago, Dead River Company has considered it both a responsibility and a privilege to support the communities we serve,” stated Kim Weiland, Region Director, Dead River Company. “Heating assistance is one of our charitable focus areas. When Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging reached out to ask us to consider this matching grant, we were happy to support them in achieving their fundraising goal.”
