Support for Veterans

Support for Veterans
At the Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging, we are proud to support the brave Vermonters who have served our country. We offer services and resources that help veterans remain independent, connected, and supported in their communities.
Facing Eviction? You're Not Alone
We also partner with Vermont Law School’s Veterans Legal Assistance Project (VLAP) to connect veterans with legal support through the Safely Home program.
Safely Home offers free legal assistance to any Vermont veteran facing eviction or at risk of
losing their housing—regardless of income.
Services may include:
- Legal defense and advice
- Help understanding your rights and housing options
- Support navigating financial hardship or pandemic-related loss
You may qualify for full or partial financial assistance. The goal is to keep you safely housed.

Veterans Directed Care Program
Veterans Directed Care (VDC) allows eligible veterans to receive flexible, in-home services that help them remain safely in their homes. Through this program, veterans can:
- Hire and manage their own caregiver
- Receive assistance with daily living needs
- Maintain independence while receiving tailored support
- Coordinate services in collaboration with VA healthcare teams
Veterans must be enrolled in VA healthcare and referred by a VA provider to qualify. This program is ideal for veterans of any age who need assistance at home and want more control over their care.
